• Springdale Elementary Attendance Policy

     
    Regular attendance is very important to your child’s school success and is a most necessary habit toward a productive adult life. Whenever your child is absent , please call the office before 8:30 to inform us. A written excuse must be sent to the office upon the student’s return to school, stating why they were absent. Even if a phone call has been made to dismiss the child from school a note is required for written documentation. Without written documentation from a parent or guardian the absence will be marked as unexcused. Examples of excused absences: doctors visits, dental visits, etc.

     

    If a student has missed three consecutive days, a doctors note is needed to excuse the absences. During the winter and spring when lice cases are more common students will be sent home the day in which the lice was found and they will be excused for one more day from school. The student MUST return to school after the one day dimissal. The office staff will recheck your child and if necessary another day out of school may be given depending on the lice condition.

     

    Homeroom class is very important in all grade levels. During this time attendance is taken, daily expectations or guidelines are set. Let alone arriving on time sets the tone for your child’s day. It is so important your child arrives to school on time.

    In addition to the negative impact upon academics, all unexcused absences  count towards the total allowed by the State of Washington.  Any student having a total of seven (7) unexcused absences in a month or ten (10) unexcused absences in a school year will have a truancy petition filed in the Superior Court of Washington, Stevens County (Juvenile Division) as per state law (RCW 28A.225.090).

    Parents are always notified when the school is considering their child’s absence unexcused, first through a form sent home with the child when he or she returns to class without a note from home.  If there is no response received from that, the school will then notify the parent/guardian by mail that their child has an outstanding unexcused absence and give them a final opportunity to clear it up.  After that, the absence remains unexcused and counts towards the total allowable by the State
